The University of Chicago Charter School

The overarching mission of the University of Chicago Charter School is to:

  1. Prepare students for success in college,
  2. Contribute to the community by offering programs to children and families beyond the school day and school year
  3. Serve as a site of professional development where teachers, support staff and principals enhance their capacity to educate all students well. The School consists of four campuses:  North Kenwood/Oakland (NKO), Donoghue,  Woodlawn and Carter G. Woodson.

NKO was established in 1998.  it is situated a 1119 E. 46th Street. The campus serves PreK through grade five students.

Donoghue opened in 2005. It is located at 707 E. 37th Street. Donoghue currently enrolls children from kindergarten through grade five and, in partnership with the Abraham Lincoln Center, offers prekindergarten. By 2010, the campus will grow to educate children from prekindergarten through grade eight. Donoghue is the first charter school campus to be assigned an attendance zone by the Chicago Public Schools.

Woodlawn was launched in 2006. It is located at 6420 S. University Avenue. Woodlawn currently enrolls children in grades six through twelve. Admissions preference is given to graduates of NKO and Donoghue and children who reside in Woodlawn's attendance zone.
